Great analysis and advice. Also I can't stop thinking about that line..."I am glad you have a beautiful face and I'm glad that you have a beautiful life." I teared up!
There’s some memes out there (nice ones) about Laurie’s speech. Also some that really show disdain for it. This is why everyone talks about White Lotus. It brings up the feelings!
Nina, it was SO MUCH FUN to explore and dissect this trio together. I loved thinking about what each character needed from each other (but weren't receiving until the end). Finally, after being real and vulnerable, they were able to laugh and cry together. I hope this friendship reboot lasts when they get back to the States, but it will take effort. I think they will always face some friendship complexities, and they will have to backpedal--and then try again (which is what you do with the people you love).
I agree friends don't have to be on the same page about "everything." No two (or three) people are in the same page about "everything."
But, friends do have to be on the same page about decency, dignity, and the truth.
I was very disappointed when the friends found out one of them was a Trump voter and there was no impact on the friendship outside of a few lines and glances.
This is a very real situation. Friendships are ending because of this, and for good reason.
I was hoping this all-too-real situation would be explored with some depth, nuanced and intelligence.
I heard that there was a storyline involving Carrie Coon's non-binary child that was scrapped in the wake of the election. How much more real, true and honest would it have been to leave it in, and have her defend her child against her "friend's" damaging actions.
I agree some friendships cannot overcome core “separate pages.”
We don’t really see them going in depth about anything in these episodes. It’s not until the end that they are being real or direct, and certainly not in episode three. That whole scene was an illustration of just how out of touch they’d become as adults. I agree they could have done more with it, but seemed in tune with the characters that they sailed by it.
Fair point, and why I have grown cold on White Lotus. Initially a delicious satire and social commentary-lite about race, class and gender, it's now a watered-down retread.
That exchange about Trump was one of the few times I thought, "This could be interesting!" and the moment quickly passed.

Nobody else I'd want to do this episode with!
